What shipped
- Released v0.7.11 with fixes for object store save failures, UDF signatures, per-database media destinations and OTLP endpoints, and pxt db delete confirmation prompts. Release
- Released v0.7.10 with alter computed column support when the column type stays the same, and new pxt login, pxt key, and pxt whoami commands. Release
- CLI now shows appropriate error messages when API keys are missing. Pull request #1668
- Invalid pixeltable.toml files now fail fast with useful error messages instead of sending bad data to the proxy server. Pull request #1660
- Database names in pixeltable.database config entries are now normalized for case consistency. Pull request #1662
- Hosted service schemas now declare gateway security on all routes except /health, type file responses as binary, and include job polling with structured error details. Pull request #1658
- Cloud guide moved to /cloud with updated first-run examples using the main database provisioned by pxt org create. Pull request #1680
- pxt secret list command updated with a management protocol change. Pull request #1663
- Documentation for
stitch_tilesclarified that the ordering expression is required as the first positional argument. Pull request #1655 - Computed columns can now be altered without changing their column type, with update_all() deliberately avoiding recomputation. Pull request #1600
Why it matters
Two releases this week bring CLI improvements for authentication and configuration validation, better Cloud setup guidance, and support for altering computed columns. The changes address error handling, validation, and deployment workflows that developers rely on daily.
Changelog entry
- v0.7.11: Fixed object store save failures with on_error='ignore', UDF signatures, per-database media destinations and OTLP endpoints, and pxt db delete confirmation Release
- v0.7.10: Alter computed column support with unchanged type, pxt login/key/whoami commands Release
- v0.7.9: CLI daemon hijack fixes, archive unpacking before proxy launch, sentence-transformers guard Release
- Appropriate missing API key error messages for CLI Pull request #1668
- Fail fast on invalid pixeltable.toml with useful error messages Pull request #1660
- Case normalization for database names in pixeltable.database configs Pull request #1662
- Hosted service schema improvements: gateway security declarations, binary file responses, job polling with structured errors Pull request #1658
- Cloud guide moved to /cloud with first-run examples using main database Pull request #1680
- pxt secret list management protocol change Pull request #1663
stitch_tilesdocumentation clarified on order-expression argument requirement Pull request #1655
v0.7.11 ships faster failure on bad config, better error messages, and per-database media endpoints. v0.7.10 adds pxt login/key/whoami commands and alter computed column support.
This week we released v0.7.11 and v0.7.10, bringing important improvements to CLI authentication and error handling. New commands pxt login, pxt key, and pxt whoami provide a clearer authentication flow. Invalid configurations now fail fast with helpful messages. Computed columns can be altered while keeping their type. We also improved hosted service schemas and Cloud deployment documentation to clarify the setup process.

What shipped
- Image/archive split:
pxt dbnow reconciles a hosted database with diff, update, restart, build-image, and delete operations, replacing separate create/build-image commands and only rebuilding what changed. Pull request #1610 - Fixed crashes when inserting or creating tables from join queries by clarifying RowBuilder.tbl semantics as the write target instead of guessing from source. Pull request #1606
- Added --json-schema flag to CLI commands that outputs a JSON schema for --json output, derived automatically from Pydantic models. Pull request #1637
- Hosted compute and query routes now presign media URLs so clients can reach them, fixing a limitation where /media URLs pointed to unreachable service endpoints. Pull request #1624
- Restricted secret creation to prevent names starting with PIXELTABLE_* and refactored secrets pulling from config. Pull request #1629
- Fixed archive deployment for Pixeltable core by unpacking the archive before launching the proxy daemon. Pull request #1640
- Fixed daemon hijacking in CLI tests by ensuring tests run from the correct working directory and hardening daemon identity checks on every health response. Pull request #1633
- Docs page menu now installs the MCP with Copy MCP URL and Copy MCP install command options, plus Connect to VS Code support. Pull request #1646
- Added missing require_package() guard for sentence-transformers dependency. Pull request #1643
- Released v0.7.8 with documentation updates and pod responsiveness improvements. Release
Why it matters
This week's releases improve the core development workflow with the image/archive split reducing rebuild times, fix critical bugs in query operations and test infrastructure, and enhance the hosted service experience with proper media URL presigning. Documentation and tooling improvements make the project more accessible to new users.
Changelog entry
- Image/archive split:
pxt dbnow provides unified database reconciliation (diff, update, restart, build-image, delete), replacing separate create/build-image operations Pull request #1610 - Fixed AssertionError crashes when inserting or creating tables from join queries Pull request #1606
- Added --json-schema flag to CLI commands for JSON schema output of --json results Pull request #1637
- Hosted compute and query routes now presign media URLs for client accessibility Pull request #1624
- Restricted secret creation to prevent PIXELTABLE_* prefixed names Pull request #1629
- Added missing require_package() guard for sentence-transformers Pull request #1643
- Fixed Pixeltable core deployment by unpacking archive before launching proxy daemon Pull request #1640
- Fixed daemon hijacking in CLI tests and hardened daemon identity verification Pull request #1633
v0.7.8 ships with image/archive splitting for faster rebuilds, fixes for join query crashes, --json-schema CLI support, and presigned media URLs for hosted services.
This week's Pixeltable release improves performance and reliability: the image/archive split reduces rebuild times by only rebuilding what changed, join query operations now work correctly when creating or inserting tables, and hosted services properly presign media URLs for client access. CLI commands gained --json-schema support for better integration, and test infrastructure was hardened to prevent daemon hijacking issues.
